The Figure 9 gives you the flexibility of two different attachment methods:

Loop System: Create high tension without having to tie a knot to secure awkward objects. Secure a load in a vehicle or anywhere else! Use your roof rack like the back of a truck to secure mattresses, ladders, small furniture, or sporting goods.
Fixed-End System: Attach the Figure 9 in the middle of the rope to hang a banner, secure a tarp or tent, tie a canoe to the top of your vehicle, or tighten any rope with a fixed anchor point.

So many uses, why knot? The April 2007 issue of Backpacker magazine says, "This tiny piece of aluminum makes tightening a line a knot- and curse-free task." The Figure 9 eliminates the frustration of tying, adjusting, and untying knots. It makes it easy to secure a line with maximum tension and also to quickly and safely release the line. Perfect for securing loads or staking out a tent or tarp. The Figure 9 is made from strong aluminum and has instructions for use laser engraved on it. Fits rope diameters from 1/16" to 3/16" with a load limit of 50 lb.
