Deer and elk antlers are composed of a bone-like material that regenerates each year. When the antlers have reached full growth, the blood supply stops and they start to harden. The velvet protective covering dries and the animal sheds his beautiful headdress, making way for a new set of antlers to grow. This nutrient-packed, marrow-filled bone (composed of calcium, phosphorous, and as much as 50% water) that has served its first purpose and been cast aside, now becomes a long-lasting, odor-free, natural chew that dogs love. As long as you choose appropriate size antlers for your dog, antlers usually do not break or splinter like some bones do. The dog's chewing action and the digestive action of his saliva slowly yield delicious morsels of antler he can enjoy. We have reports of some dogs taking months to finish their antler chews. Antlers last so long because the dogs don't try (and can't) consume the entire antler in one sitting; most dogs will gnaw on the antler several times a day for long periods of time.
Bingo-Buck naturally shed antlers come from deer and elk. The Small grade antlers are smallest in diameter of all the antlers we offer (3/8" to 3/4") and range in length from 8"-10". The average weight is 3.4 oz. Remember, however, that this is a natural product and each antler will be unique in both size and shape.
