Every year across North America millions of male elk shed their antlers. Using antlers as dog chews for your canine companion offers many advantages over other dog chews. First, and most importantly, a dog's natural instinct is to search out and chew bones. Antler is bone, but unlike skeletal bones that primarily have a soft center, antler is solid bone thereby making it virtually impossible for your dog to break. Antler dog chews will not splinter, making them safer than bones as well as long lasting. Because it is bone, antler is naturally rich in calcium and minerals.
While antler dog chews have no detectable odor to us, they have an appealing scent to your dog's discerning nose. Deer, elk, and moose antlers have some minor variations in composition, but the main distinction is made by your dog. The scent for each species is distinct and you may find that your dog enjoys one variety over the others.
Some dogs don't like to work very hard to get to the marrow of an antler. Our Split Medium Elk Antlers solve that problem. They're split in half lengthwise to expose the marrow. All the edges have been sanded smooth. These antlers are sorted and graded. A Split Medium Elk Antler can range from 5" to 7" in length. Remember, however, that this is a natural product so each antler will be unique in both size and shape. Split Medium Elk Antlers are appropriate for dogs weighing 20-40 lbs.
