Reviews
"I have found the Gentle Leader to be extremely effective in dealing with a variety of problems. Specifically, it is invaluable for dogs which pull on leashes and for dogs which lunge at other dogs or people. The Gentle Leader provides a quick and easy-to-use, humane option for concerned owners." —Dr. Ian Dunbar, Animal Behaviorist, Veterinarian, International Author & Speaker, Berkeley, CA
"I started using the Gentle Leader in my obedience classes years ago when I was asked to field test the product. It's innovative, humane, easy to use and it works! I know that through the years this device has literally saved the lives of many dogs. I strongly urge all serious trainers to conduct their own test of Gentle Leader and discover first-hand what a wonderful addition it can be to their training program." —Terry Ryan, International Author & Speaker, Pullman, WA
"There is hardly a dog owner who has not at some point found the awful truth—dogs can pull with the strength of wild horses! Taking a wild and crazy dog and teaching him to walk in public doesn't have to be a struggle. Getting a dog to walk on a leash with ease is a matter of a little horse sense and a little ancient technology... Instead of using a collar and leash, the best tool for controlling a wild horse is a halter—and for a dog, the solution is exactly the same. The halter I prefer is the Gentle Leader... one of the advantages is that it is convertible. You can use it as a regular collar, or you can use it as a halter at your convenience. If the dog is tugging, you can use the nose loop and suddenly you've got a halter. If the dog learns to walk correctly on a leash and is not distracted, then you can slip the nose loop down and use it as a regular collar." —Gary Wilkes, International Author & Speaker, Scottsdale, AZ
"Last year we fit more than 1,000 of our students' dogs with Gentle Leaders®. Our students are pleased with the results, and we're happy because we know that well-trained dogs live longer and healthier lives." —Marti and Deb McCann, McCann Professional Dog Trainers, Ontario, Canada
"It's the closest thing to magic I've ever seen. It's so exciting to put Gentle Leader® on an aggressive or exuberant dog, and within a few minutes, the dog has calmed down and the owner has control. With the ability to control even the largest of dogs, the owner relaxes, and learning and behavior changes quickly take place." —Marcia Koenig, Trainer, Seattle, WA

Gentle Leader Headcollar
Premier Pet Products
Barking... leash pulling... lunging... jumping... These are all common behavior problems experienced by millions of dog owners. Finally there is a fast, effective and humane way to manage these problem behaviors. The Gentle Leader Headcollar is the #1 recommended headcollar endorsed by leading trainers and behaviorists worldwide.
The Gentle Leader is not a muzzle. When fitted properly, your dog may open him mouth to eat, drink, pant, fetch and bark—except when you pull on the leash to close his mouth. The Gentle Leader comes with a free training DVD!
The Gentle Leader Headcollar features two soft nylon straps: the quick-release collar portion fits high at the top of the neck, and the nose loop fits loosely and comfortably across the base of the muzzle. Each strap has a distinct and important effect:
- The Nose Loop: Dogs are naturally "pack" animals with a highly structured social order. One of the ways the "pack leader" will demonstrate his position is to gently but firmly grasp a subordinate's muzzle in his mouth. This is a non-aggressive but very clear signal regarding who's the boss! The Gentle Leader's nose loop encircles your dog's muzzle in this same manner, letting him know in his own language that you are his leader. Dogs feel more secure when they know who the leader is.
- The Neck Strap: Have you noticed how puppies seem to melt in relaxation when their mother picks them up at the back of the neck? Gentle Leader applies pressure to the back of the neck rather than the front of the throat, working with your dog's natural relaxation instinct with an amazing calming effect. Also, dogs tend to pull against pressure so the gentle pressure at the back of the neck causes the dog to pull backward, not forward. This means an end to leash-pulling forever!
