Suzanne Wesley

For more than 25 years, Suzanne Wesley has helped dogs and handlers build confident, reliable performances through an understanding of learning, engagement, and behavioral science. While her competitive accomplishments include multiple national podium finishes and representing the United States internationally, her greatest passion is helping teams understand why dogs learn, connect, and perform and developing a behavior-based
engagement and foundation training system.

Today her teaching combines more than two decades of competitive agility with an evidence-based understanding of animal behavior. Whether working with a beginner puppy or an international competitor, her goal remains the same: to help dogs become thoughtful, confident partners who understand not only what to do, but how to learn.

In 2001, Suzanne discovered Bob Bailey's work and began studying the principles of behavior. That experience fundamentally changed how she trained dogs. Rather than simply teaching agility skills, she became fascinated with understanding why dogs make decisions, how reinforcement shapes performance, and how emotional regulation influences learning. That journey eventually led her to study with Bob Bailey, Shelley Wood, Chirag Patel, and other leading behavior professionals, reinforcing the philosophy that successful agility is built on behavioral understanding rather than mechanical repetition.
