The Border Collie is a breed renowned for its intelligence, quick thinking and highly versatile mind, capable of excelling in so many pursuits and disciplines. But it is also a breed like no other, with an inner psychology that can be complex, challenging and consistently misunderstood. For years, owners have wondered why a breed that can be so brilliant in some ways can be so trouble in others—prone to controlling, super sensitive, reactive, phobic and obsessive behaviors, often with a less "sociable" brain. The answers are revealed in a groundbreaking trilogy by the author of the best-selling book Collie Psychology. In Border Collies A Breed Apart, Carol Price delves into the true genetic origins, and mental mechanics, of the breed in ways that bring owners totally unprecedented new insights into the behavior of their dogs.

In this first book in the series, Secrets Of The Working Mind, she focuses on the breed's heritage; on the legendary early dogs who shaped the modern Border Collie's identity and gave him a mind that is, in many ways, autistic in design. She explores what working instinct really is in Border Collies, and how the traits that go with it explain so many other aspects of their psychology and behavior.

If you want to truly understand your Collie, and rear, train, and manage him in ways that are in tune with his individual psyche, these books will become your bible.

About the Author
Carol Price has owned, trained, and bred Border Collies for decades and is a world recognized expert on the breed. She is also a leading canine behaviorist and writer in the UK and, over the years, has been a regular contributor/advisor on dog psychology, behavior and training for publications ranging from Dogs Today and Your Dog magazines to The Times. Before working more exclusively with dogs, and other areas of animal behavior, Carol was a staff feature writer and commissioning editor on The Sunday Times, and has since written for a host of national newspapers and magazines. Her passion for, and special interest in, both Border Collies and rescue dogs began many years ago, when seeking to more successfully rehabilitate troubled dogs from all breeds and backgrounds and better understand, in particular, the uniquely brilliant—but often also complex and challenging—mind of the Border Collie.

"If you have a Border Collie you need to read this. If you don't have a Border Collie you need to read it too, because it gives such an insight into what makes a particular dog tick."  —Gill Shaw, editor of Dogs Monthly

"A series that could change your understanding of Border Collies forever."  —Ben Wilkes, Border Collie Trust Great Britain
