Training Border Collies... What is the secret of getting it right, or the real reasons why it can so often go wrong?

Continuing on from the first book in Carol Price's acclaimed Breed Apart trilogy, Secrets of the Working Mind, which provides unprecedented insights into how the Border Collie brain works, the author now focuses on the Border Collie learning process. What should your dog’s education involve? How can you train a breed that is so superbly intelligent and responsive in some ways, but can be stubborn or mentally demanding in others?

Carol questions the myth that all Collies are "easy to train," and outlines the exercises and lessons that are most critical for them to learn. She explains why training most commonly fails and advises what to do about it. She also highlights how vital it is to tailor the training of your Border Collie to the nature of his unique personality.

She believes that, too often, people's training of Border Collies puts excessive emphasis on set tasks and aspects of performance, neglecting the need for a broader and deeper social education. This includes teaching essential life skills, which Border Collies need if they are to face the world as happy, well-adjusted individuals.

Carol Price's passion for and insight into the Border Collie breed are widely regarded as second to none, making this is an essential book for any Border Collie owner who wants to truly understand their dog, and make him the most rewarding of life companions.
