There are a million ways to use a Snuffle Mat in your training, and all of them will make your dog happy! Manufactured in the USA, these Snuffle Mats are not like the rest—they are made with over 30% more high-quality fleece strips. For the Large Snuffle Mat, the strips are double-knotted on a 12"W x 12"L x 1/2" thick, heavy-duty commercial mat for a finished size of 18"W x 18"L x 6"H. This thick mat provides lots of hiding areas for your dog to sniff and search. The mat weighs 3-1/8lbs. to help it stay in place better while your dog hunts.
This interactive training tool is elegantly simple, and just the thing to calm, distract, reward, or engage your dog. Created to stimulate your dog's natural foraging instincts, the mat puts both your dog's nose and brain to work. Research studies have shown that animals that forage for some of their food are happier animals. And, did you know that 15 minutes of sniffing uses as many calories as an hour long walk?
The Snuffle Mat is
- A brilliant boredom buster
- Perfect for slowing down fast eaters
- Ideal for dogs resting after injury or illness
- Useful for redirecting excess energy and calming
- Great for training self-control games
- An excellent distraction while you are waiting your turn in class or talking with the instructor
- A fun jackpot reward during training
The first time using the Snuffle Mat, ask your dog to sit and sprinkle a few treats on top of the mat. Then release him to go sniff. If the dog starts to lift or pull at the mat, ask him to sit or lie down, or use your "leave it" cue. Then encourage sniffing by releasing him and pointing out treats to him. As dog catches on to game, tuck the treats further down in the fleece strips.
Available in assorted color combinations; please allow us to choose for you.
Note: Snuffle mats are intended to be interactive toys that are always used in supervised play and training. To ensure that your dog doesn't chew or eat the fleece or rubber, these mats should never be left unattended with the dog.
The Large Snuffle Mat can be washed in cold water, but we recommend using a commercial washing machine and air drying. Add a couple small towels to help balance out the load. Alternatively, wash outside with a hose.
