First Day of Course: June 15, 2020
Course Length: 8 weeks plus foundation lesson and bonus lesson
Class has started, but it's not too late to join in! You will be able to see all of the lessons regardless of when you enroll.
Do you want to learn how to teach your dog to commit to obstacles and drive forward ahead of you? Do you have a dog that curls back at you, spins, or barks when you get behind him? Do you have a hard time driving your dog forward to the last obstacle? Do you have a dog that's a lot faster than you are? Do you need to be able to take shortcuts on course? Do you have a young dog that needs to learn forward focus and obstacle commitment?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, then this class is for you! Lisa Schmit has developed a comprehensive and proven training program to teach distance in a fun and positive way. The goal of her Drive into the Distance Zone program is to instill knowledge, confidence, and skills to work away from your dog and handle any level of distance. This first class, Put the Pedal to the Metal and GO GO GO, is designed to give you the information you need to successfully teach your dog to drive forward regardless of your position. You may be working at a distance behind him or lateral to him.
Teaching your dog to drive forward opens up your handling options and makes for a more flowing and smooth run. Additionally, many agility organizations have classes that require you to send the dog to send while you remain behind a line (FAST, Chances, Gamblers, Jackpot, etc.). In Put the Pedal to the Metal and GO GO GO, you will learn the steps to teach your dog to continue to drive forward even when you get behind, and you will work on Lisa's favorite driving-forward exercises to teach your dog to go, go, go!
In each lesson, Lisa provides step-by-step instructions and videos for the exercises. She covers when to cue and what cues to use to direct your dog through the sequences, as well as how to reward your dog appropriately. She demonstrates the exercises with different dogs, including a young pup who is learning to drive forward from the ground up.
