Class has started, but it's not too late to join in! You will be able to see all of the lessons regardless of when you enroll.

This class will focus on training weave poles from basic through advanced skills. It is appropriate for all levels—from true beginners to competition-level dogs looking to proof skills or correct gaps in training. Lessons begin with an introduction to the weaves and build up to advanced skills and drills. Emphasis is on independence, reliability, speed, entries, exits, and discriminations. This is a 16-week course with 8 lessons so that you have sufficient time to get the work done. All of the lessons are released at once so you can work at your own speed.

Karen remarks, "Over the years, I have had many dogs, but I have found that my weave pole training has remained the same. There are many methods out there, but I feel if something is working, why change it? I have added additional challenges to my training over the years, but the methodology has remained consistent. I love the way my dogs weave and I love their independence. I love stepping to the line and not worrying about my dog making the weave pole entry or if he will stay in the poles as I run away. My goal is that you feel the same way after finishing this class."

Note: If you previously took this course and would like to repeat it (for example, work with another dog or work as a Premier student after being a Standard student), we offer a 40% discount. Please contact customer service for information on how to get the discount.

Prerequisites

Dogs must be fully grown. Other than that, this class is appropriate for everyone from true beginners to competition-level dogs looking to proof skills or correct gaps in training.

Equipment and space needed

  • 12 channel weave poles:* The channels are only recommended for the first few weeks, so if you do not have a set, consider borrowing them. After that, a standard set of weave poles will suffice. Stick-in-the-ground weave poles will also work.
  • Weave pole guide wires: These are used for less than 3 weeks.
  • 1 tunnel and 1 jump
  • Toys, treats, and a great attitude!

*Note: We understand that there are handlers who are already trialing and would like to fill in the "gaps" in their weave pole training, but who didn't originally train with channel poles. While many people in this situation do get channel poles for the class, if you don't have access or don't want to do that, you can use the weave poles you have. For example, if you previously trained with 2x2s, you can start Lesson 1 with your 2x2s opened up slightly to help the dog. If the dog doesn't need that, you can keep the poles straight.

"I LOVED Karen Holik's Ninja Weaves online course from Clean Run! I can't recommend this course highly enough!! It's simple, straightforward, easy for both dogs and handlers to understand, but most importantly FUN! Karen's written instructions and video examples were easy to understand. Her feedback was prompt, always encouraging, and helped us progress quickly. My 2-year-old dog, Taser (who had very little weave training before we started this course), had his poles in a straight line, all guides gone, in about 4 weeks of training. By the end of the 16-week course, he could find really difficult entrances and perform his weaves independent of my position better than any of my previous seven agility dogs! I will be taking my older dog through this course to improve her weaves as well. I want her to have the same awesome skills that Taser does! Thank you Karen and Clean Run."  —Kathie Leggett

"Karen systematically trains and tests weave pole performance from the ground up in this class. I had a Masters dog, but we needed more independence. The first few lessons uncovered holes in our foundation, and the later lessons challenged us to reach new levels! Her demo videos are clear, and feedback is quick and very helpful. Onni and I highly recommend this course! Thanks for offering this! I’m going to recommend it to my students!"  —Kim Glass

"Karen saw things in my training sessions that I did not see from my own videos. She exposed so many holes in my training that I was completely blind to, and answered so many of my dogs' questions. I have gone from stepping into the ring wondering if the weaves will be the one thing between us and a Q, to knowing that the weaves will provide an opportunity for us to be in an advantageous position farther down the course. I used this course for all e of my dogs - my masters dog, my open dog, and my dog learning weaves - and they all benefitted from it. Thank you!"  —Susan

"THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS COURSE. This course taught me a whole new way to teach how to weave. The way everything was broken down made understanding and building solid foundation very easy. Thank you so much Karen for all of the feedback and lessons."  —Amy

"Fantastic online class. Rapid, productive, and individual feedback, clear and organized information, and a confident weaving dog at the end! I would recommend for any handler or dog at any level." —Anne

"Highly recommend for all levels. Excellent, clear lessons and feedback. It's a great feeling to walk or run a course and not even think twice about whether or not your dog will get the entry and successfully complete the weaves!" —Laura R.

"I'm sorry to see this course come to an end. This was by far the best online experience we’ve ever had and the course content was SO helpful!!!! I never dreamed we’d be doing some of the very tough skills that we accomplished, woo hoo! Karma's speed and confidence improved tremendously and she clearly loves (now) to weave! Thank you for your critical eye for feedback and encouragement to persevere when the going got tough! Wish we lived closer!!!!! Karma and I thank you for your hard work and appreciate you!!!!" —S.B.

"Moon and I recently participated in an online weaves class offered by Karen Holik. While Moon had what I felt was a strong weave foundation, I was hoping for us to build more independence, confidence, and speed in the face of distractions—even if i was out of position. I am thrilled with Moon's progress. We enjoyed the course immensely and I learned a great deal about teaching weave performance and independence, as well as training in general. Karen's exercises, instructions, critiques and suggestions are very clear, understandable, creative, and helpful. All in all, an outstanding and productive experience." —Marilyn Buford

"When I began my agility journey with my first dog, Aoife, I had no idea how to train weave poles. We just muddled through 6 poles and Aoife finally understood what to do after 4 long months. Then when we tried 12 it was like starting all over again. We were both very frustrated. I decided right then I needed this class. We started the class as if we had never done weaves before. We followed all of the lessons step by step and Aoife was finding the entry after, I think, only 3 weeks! She continues to do really well and is really fast! We are no longer frustrated and I am now feeling confident for our next trial. Thank you so much!" —Laurie & Aoife

"I'm a big fan of your coaching. It was fun to work the progression from weave guides to weaving warrior and train myself and Zeke in the weaves! Hard to believe we got it done! We will need to keep on a "maintain the weave skills" program and keep working the various entries etc. Thanks again. I look forward to joining any class you coach!"  —Jill
