In this 75-minute recorded presentation, Dr. Hekman (DVM, PhD) discusses what we know about the relationship between spay/neuter timing and changes in the risk of developing cancer and orthopedic injuries such as cranial cruciate ligament disease (CCL tear). She also talks about how spay/neuter can affect behavior, for better or worse. Dr. Hekman specifically discusses some recent studies and she details problems that affect the designing of effective studies to ask these questions. In addition, she will cover alternatives to the traditional spay/neuter surgery.
