Dog’s typically distribute 60% of their weight to the front limbs and 40% to the rear limbs. Shifting more weight to the rear is key to improving your dog's rear end awareness. If the dog does not have weight distributed to their rear feet, then they are relying too heavily on their front limbs.

Many of you may already have an idea in your head of what rear end awareness is, but this class is designed to make you think about rear end awareness in a different way, and hopefully change the focus of the exercises that you use to teach rear end awareness. Bobbie defines rear end awareness as the dog’s ability to shift weight into their rear limbs to activate the muscle engagement necessary to power in all directions. This rear end muscle engagement is critical for collection, braking, stabilization, and power. Open your mind to the possibilities and you will likely achieve true rear end awareness with your dog—it's not just about picking up a rear foot.

There is a huge amount of information included in this course.

Why take this class?

  • Teach your dog to use 4-paw drive (not 2-paw drive)
  • Understand how the many misconceptions of rear end awareness teach your dog to load more weight to the front
  • Be introduced to a timeline for teaching certain behaviors that improve rear end awareness
  • Teach your dog how to access power from the rear
  • Help to keep your dog injury-free by activating more muscles in your dog's movement
  • Understand what YOU can do to help your dog

You can start the Bobbi Lyons self-study course whenever you like. It includes 5 lessons that you can complete at your own pace. There are no fixed deadlines or due dates.

What is included with your purchase?

  • Access to all course materials on both mobile devices and your computer
  • Downloadable content for off-line access when you're out training

A basic understanding of clicker training is required as well as the following behaviors either on verbal or hand signal cue, using a target or lured:

  • Nose touch and/or nose touch hold
  • Chin rest

Equipment needed

Substitutions are recommended if you don’t have the equipment used in the videos. There are many possible equipment options and you may use something you have lying around your house.

  • Mat (bath mat, yoga mat, or something similar—it should NOT be a puffy bed)
  • 2 small balance props that your dog can stand on in a balanced position (balance discs, K9FITbones, FitPAWS Ramp, rubber feed pans, or something similar)

"I wish everyone taught rear-end awareness like you do! It's amazing to see the difference and now I can totally understand how backing up to an object and backing up to a Klimb/wall/handstand is totally the opposite of getting that weight shift into the rear. I hope everyone who does sports takes this class cause it's been SOOO valuable to us. I really can't thank you enough for all of this. It's an incredible course and has changed so much for us!!!"  —HC, North Carolina
