My Sheltie prefers "rollers" with lots of action for retrieving games. It is fun to experiment with different ways of throwing this toy to change it's very interesting action which is very motivating to dogs who are chasers. It works really well on semi-smooth surfaces such as artificial turf. It's light weight is compatible with smaller dogs who may not like carrying the heavy rubber rings.
